'DUP/Tory budget ensures economic stagnation' - Sinn Féin
Sinn Féin MLA's Conor Murphy and Máirtín Ó Muilleoir today met with the Permanent Secretary of the Department for the Economy to discuss the budget allocated to the Department.
Afterwards, the party's Economy spokesperson Conor Murphy said:
“With growth in the north sluggish at around 1% and the threat of Brexit hanging over us there is a real need to increase investment in our economy.
“However the budget delivered by the Tories and the DUP provides no extra money for the Department for the Economy in 2018/19. Indeed it is being cut in real terms.
"During today’s meeting it was confirmed that the budget provided by the Tories and DUP means no extra money for Further and Higher Education, no extra money for skills, no extra money for Intertrade Ireland, cuts to Invest NI, and cuts to Tourism.
“At a time when we urgently need a stimulus our economy is being subject to continued austerity”
