Órfhlaith Begley a new voice in a changing Ireland – O'Neill
Sinn Féin Vice President Michelle O’Neill said today that Órfhlaith Begley, will be a dynamic new voice for the people of West Tyrone standing for rights and equality and for a new future in a new agreed united Ireland.
The Mid Ulster MLA was speaking after Órfhlaith Begley handed in her nomination papers as the Sinn Féin candidate to contest the West Tyrone by-election on 3rd May.
Michelle O’Neill MLA said:
“Órfhlaith Begley is a young, dynamic advocate, both in her political activism and in her work as a solicitor, for rights and equality and for a new future in a new agreed united Ireland.
“She has identified the twin threats of Brexit and relentless Tory austerity as the biggest threats facing the people of West Tyrone.
“In Órfhlaith Begley, the people of West Tyrone will have a fighter to stand up for them against these threats.
“This is also the first election since the DUP collapsed the political talks aimed at restoring power sharing and political institutions which deliver for all.
“It is a chance for the people of West Tyrone to register their anger and frustration at the DUP’s ongoing denial of many of their basic civil and human rights and to send a message to the British Tory party that its support for this blockade of rights is unacceptable.
“The election on May 3rd is an opportunity to do just that.
“I am asking the people of West Tyrone to reject the Tory-DUP agenda of Brexit, austerity and the denial of rights and stand with Sinn Féin in demanding equality, rights and a better future by electing Órfhlaith Begley as the next MP for West Tyrone.”
