British kicking the Brexit can down the road unacceptable – Hazzard
Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard has said the British Government must respect the entitlements of the people of the North as enshrined in the Good Friday agreement.
Speaking in response to the British government’s proposed ‘backstop’ plan for trade with the EU after Brexit, the South Down MP commented:
“What the British government has put on the table simply will not suffice.
“It is totally unacceptable that once again, the people of the North are forced to face uncertainty due to the internal disagreements of the Tory cabinet
“The British government must remember and respect the rights and entitlements of the people of the North of Ireland as set out by the Good Friday Agreement. It is absolutely essential that this is not compromised as a result of Brexit.
“We can only move forward if we have legal certainty behind the political guarantees, not a case of kicking the can down the road.”
