Commenting after meeting with department officials today, the West Belfast MLA said:
"This morning's meeting was useful and we received an update from a consultant neurologist from the Belfast Trust who gave us an account of the complexity and challenges in the neurology recall process.
"The work of neurology services and all staff involved in the recall must be commended.
"We are now coming to the end of the first phase of the Belfast Trust's recall of Neurology patients of Dr Michael Watt's and we pressed the department for detail on the outcomes of this 12-week process with regards to the rate of misdiagnosis and its plans moving forward with regards to discharged patients.
"We requested and have secured a commitment from the Permanent Secretary Richard Pengelly to provide regular briefings on this matter and another cross party briefing will be held in September."
Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Carers Colm Gildernew added: "The last 12 weeks has been an extremely difficult, stressful and worrying time for neurology patients and their families affected by this recall.
"We emphasised the again the importance of psychological and emotional support for patients dealing serious neurological conditions and with the possibility they had been misdiagnosed, previously.
"These supports for patients will continue to be needed moving forward.”
