Action needed to resolve Riverside Retail Park traffic congestion -Archibald
Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has called for a speedy resolution to ongoing traffic congestion issues around Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine.
The East Derry MLA said: “I’ve been contacted by numerous constituents over the past few months about congestion around the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine, which can be particularly problematic at weekends.
“Again today, I’ve been contacted regarding traffic congestion in the area. These delays are a nuisance for local residents but are also bad for traders and businesses in both the Retail Park and the town.
“I recently met with the consultant for the owners of the Retail Park and highlighted this issue, I was told a traffic survey has recently been conducted in and around the Retail Park to assess the traffic flows and look at potential solutions.
“I’ve also written to DfI Roads who have indicated that as the Retail Park is privately owned and the road layout within it, is what was proposed by the developers as part of the original planning application process, DfI Roads have no powers to compel the land owners to make adjustments to private roads other than through relevant planning applications.
“However given the ongoing issues, it is important that steps are taken to resolve this. I will be contacting the owners to ask that they expedite work to resolve the traffic problems.
“I will also be writing to DfI Roads to ask that they look again at any action which they can take, given the knock-on impact on the surrounding roads.”
