Sinn Féin meet NIPSA on electoral office closures
A Sinn Féin delegation led by MLAs Colm Gildernew and Emma Rogan met with NIPSA today to support their call for the retention of electoral offices across the north.
Speaking after the meeting, Colm Gildernew said:
“Electoral offices play a key role in ensuring people can exercise their democratic entitlements.
“They are also an employer and staff and unions are obviously concerned at plans to reduce the number of offices as a cost cutting measure.
“Electoral offices should not become the latest target of DUP/Tory austerity cuts.
“Sinn Féin fully support NIPSA’s call for the planned closure of electoral offices to be halted until such times as a viable plan is in place to replace them.
“This is crucial both in terms of protecting workers and protecting the democratic rights of citizens.”
