McAleer slams disgraceful attack on Drumnakilly memorial
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has slammed a ‘disgraceful attack’ on a memorial to IRA Volunteers Gerard Harte, Martin Harte and Brian Mullin who were shot dead by the SAS at Drumnakilly.
The West Tyrone MLA said:
“This memorial commemorates the lives of IRA Volunteers Gerard Harte, Martin Harte and Brian Mullin who were ambushed by the SAS at Drumnakilly on this day in 1988.
“The families of these three men have already suffered immense hurt and loss.
“Those responsible struck in the dead of night and defaced the memorial with paint.
“I wholeheartedly condemn this cowardly and disgraceful attack which serves absolutely no purpose other than to add to the grief of the families.
“This memorial has now been repaired by local republicans ahead of tonight’s commemoration at 7pm to honour their lives and sacrifice.”
