Reduce, reuse, alternative to fight plastic pollution - Boylan

24 September, 2018 - by Cathal Boylan

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has encouraged people to reduce, reuse, recycle and where possible move to renewable alternatives that will help drive the fight against plastic pollution

Speaking on ‘Recycle Week’ the party’s Environment, Energy and Climate Change said:

“Today marks the beginning of national ‘Recycle Week’ and I would encourage everyone to help the environment by recycling more material as part of their daily routine.

“There are many practical steps we can take to play our part in reducing our carbon output and help to reduce any detrimental impact on our environment.

“The focus of this year’s campaign is plastics under the theme ‘Recycling. We do. Because it matters’ highlighting that 79 percent of all plastic waste ever produced is still in the environment.

"We all have a responsibility for the planet and plastic pollution is a human made problem, we all need to take affirmative action to combat this problem.

"With over 10 million tonnes of plastic waste leaking into our oceans each year, we are reaching a critical point. The ocean will contain more plastic than fish by 2050 unless we take action.

“I would also call on people to reduce, reuse, recycle and where possible move to renewable alternatives that will help drive the fight against plastic pollution.”
