Structural review of Gaelscoil Sliabh Rua must happen immediately - Councillor Chris Curran

23 October, 2018 - by Chris Curran

Sinn Féin Councillor for Sandyford Glencullen, Chris Curran has called for the immediate structural and fire safety survey of Gaelscoil Sliabh after it was included on a list of 30 schools built by Western Building Systems, two of which have have been shut down with immediate effect after structural problems were discovered.

Speaking today Curran said;

"Gaelscoil Shliabh Rua is marvellous new educational facility and like many parents and staff, am very concerned at today’s news.

“The school has come a long way since the pre-fab buildings in De La Salle Palmerston Rugby Club and it would be horrible to hear any further bad news.

“Parents will now obviously be very concerned for their children’s safety.

"Furthermore, this is also a place of work and staff require assurances that their place of work is safe.

“This problem is again symptomatic of building controls that have simply failed. The system of self-regulation cannot and should not be trusted.

“Let's hope that it's inclusion on the list is the worst part of this story and that early inspection can be arranged to ease the angst felt by many.

“The examination of this school needs to happen immediately.”
