Gildernew concerns over Muckamore transparency
Sinn Féin Carers spokesperson Colm Gildernew MLA has expressed alarm over the lack of openness regarding safeguarding concerns at Muckamore Abbey. After seeking urgent clarification from the Belfast Trust on the matter, the Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA said:"Sinn Féin colleagues and I have been engaging heavily with the relevant authorities on safeguarding issues within Muckamore Abbey."It has been our understanding that following input from the families and carers of the patients involved, the Serious Adverse Incident report would go to the Trust and the Health and Social Care Board, before being published."We felt this was appropriate and important to ensure that the views of the families and carers were represented and included before the report became available.""It now appears this will not be the case. This is deeply concerning and regrettable."Following recent high profile issues on safeguarding and standards of care within our health and social care service it is important that the public know they are being taken seriously. On each occasion we raised the need for the public to see that there is a culture of transparency and improvement."Sinn Féin do not want personal details released but call for a version that states what happened, how it was allowed to happen, what was learned and what will change going forward. I have written to the Belfast Trust seeking clarification"
