PSNI have responsibility to remove flags in Lisburn mixed community - Duffy
Sinn Féin Lisburn North representative Joe Duffy has received confirmation from Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council that the camera tower on which flags have been erected in the mixed Thaxton Village area of Lisburn City is “an asset of the PSNI”.
Joe Duffy said:
“I have received written confirmation from Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council that the camera tower on which flags have been erected at North Feeder Road junction and Prince William Road is “attached to the asset of the PSNI”.
“I have now written to the PSNI again and requested that these flags be removed immediately.
“Flags, emblems and symbols should never be used to intimidate, harass or mark out territory.
“It is my view that those who erected these flags deliberately close to mixed housing developments, did so to mark out territory and stoke fear and community tension.
“As this camera tower is an asset of the PSNI, the PSNI should now act to remove these flags swiftly so people can get on with their everyday lives free from fear.”
