‘DUP must end silence on murderous activities of Loyalist paramilitaries’ - Kelly
Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has called on the DUP leadership to end its silence on the continued existence and criminal activities of Loyalist paramilitaries.
The North Belfast MLA said:
“Police have confirmed that the East Belfast UVF is a line of inquiry in the investigation into the murder of Ian Ogle earlier this week. They have also stated that East Belfast UVF is one of five priority investigations being carried out by the Paramilitary Crime Task Force on an ongoing basis.
“However, so far we have heard nothing from the DUP leadership on the continued existence and activities of these armed paramilitary groups.
“It’s over 20 years on from the Good Friday Agreement and still Loyalist paramilitaries are active on the streets carrying out murder, violence, extortion and intimidation.
“It’s time for the leadership of political unionism to step up and end its silence.
“The DUP must heed the calls of the community by rejecting these organisations and make it clear they have no place in our society and should disband immediately.”
