‘Further startling revelations’ uncovered at Public Accounts Committee into KWETB accounts - John Brady TD
Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow John Brady has said that there were further startling revelations today in the Public Accounts Committee in relation to the KWETB.
The meeting took place following on from the report into the 2015 Accounts of the KWETB published by the C&AG last week.
Speaking following the meeting, Teachta Brady said:
“The long-awaited publication of the C&AG report last week followed intense scrutiny by the Public Accounts Committee back in November 2017 where the former Chief Executive and Chairperson were in attendance to account for financial statements.
"Today, a second meeting at the Public Accounts Committee took place with officials from the Department of Education, the C&AG and representatives from the KWETB.
“Following questioning from Sinn Féin TDs it was revealed that without any Board approval, the CEO and Vice Chairperson of the Board signed a 20 year lease on what is known as Block E in Bray Civic Centre for a rent of €5.72 million, including fit out costs due to exceed €3 million totalling €8.72 million.
“Even without Board knowledge or approval, rent has continued to be paid on that premises without any legal advice sought by the KWETB into its legality.
“The Public Accounts Committee has requested that a thorough search be carried out to identify the Directors of the company in which this lease has been entered with to see if there may be potential conflicts of interest.
“This is more evidence that further investigations are now required into all years of finances relating to the KWETB."
