Gildernew calls on Irish government to release Crowley Report
Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew has called on the Irish government to release the Crowley Report into the killing of Aidan McAnespie by the the British army.
The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP said:
“Today marks the 31st anniversary of the killing of Aidan McAnespie who was shot dead by a British soldier while he was on his way to a Gaelic match in Aughnacloy.
“At today’s meeting of the Good Friday Agreement Implementation Committee in the Oireachtas, I raised the killing of Aidan McAnespie directly with An Tánaiste and challenged him to release the Crowley report into the killing in its entirety to the McAnespie family.
“I also made it clear that confidence in the PSNI has been badly damaged by the failure of the PSNI to hand over to the Ombudsman information on dozens of killings and cases of British state collusion.
“I challenged him to hold the PSNI and the British government to account over its failures on legacy issues.
“The Irish government is a co-guarantor to the Good Friday Agreement and has a responsibility to relatives of victims who are seeking access to truth about the deaths of their loved ones.”
