Irish rights, economy and agreements at risk as Brexit fiasco continues – Mary Lou McDonald TD

19 March, 2019 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has hit out at the British Government’s continued disregard for Ireland.

Ms McDonald said that Irish rights, economy and agreements are at risk as the Brexit fiasco continues.

Speaking today the Sinn Féin President said:

“While An Taoiseach meets Donald Tusk today in Dublin, chaos reigns in London with the ongoing Brexit fiasco putting Irish rights, our economy and agreements at increasing risk.

“The antics on display at Westminster show clearly the complete disregard the British Government has for Ireland.

“Sinn Féin, and the majority of parties across this island, know there is no good or sensible Brexit.

“The Withdrawal Agreement is far from perfect but is the only deal on offer.

“Let’s stop the nonsense and pretend politics.

“We now need to intensify planning for a no-deal crash with an imperative to ensure no return to a hard border, protections of our agreements and that the rights of citizens are safeguarded.

“The Irish Government and the EU must remain resolute in defending Irish interest in the face of British Government pressure.”
