Government should not keep public in dark over Property Tax Plans - Pearse Doherty TD
Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD has criticised the government’s plan to yet again delay announcing an increase in local property tax valuations until after the May elections.
The Donegal TD has said that it would be wrong for the public to be kept in the dark in regards to the plans, which Sinn Féin are opposed to.
Teachta Doherty said:
“Sinn Féin has been consistent in outright opposition to the Local Property Tax. Fine Gael has championed the tax but is now afraid to announce their plans.
"They previously kicked the can down the road before the last general election. To do so again in the mouth of local and EU elections would be cute hoor politics and wouldn't go unnoticed.
"Both the Thornhill Report and the Parliamentary Budget Office have warned that any further delay would in fact be open to constitutional challenge."
