Sport Ireland CEO can’t express confidence in FAI board - Imelda Munster TD
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Sport Imelda Munster TD has today said that it is a matter of huge concern that the body charged with governance and oversight of the FAI today said they could not say that they had confidence in the FAI’s board.
Deputy Munster questioned officials from Sport Ireland this evening on the financial irregularities which have recently come to light at the FAI.
The TD for Louth pressed John Treacy, CEO of Sport Ireland on whether Sport Ireland had confidence in the board at the FAI. Mr Treacy's response was that he “is not saying yes”.
Deputy Munster said:
“The response today at the Committee was telling. Throughout today’s meeting, Sport Ireland officials made it clear that they are unhappy that information requested of the FAI to explain the €100,000 loan has not been forthcoming.
“The FAI receives substantial funding from the state, and they must be held to account.
“I am not surprised that they can’t express confidence in the board, given all that’s come to light in recent weeks and the very weak response from the FAI in this time.
“Next week’s meeting with be hugely significant, and hopefully it will shed some light on the bizarre goings-on at the FAI.”
