Sheehan concerned by Health Department's cancellation of Neurology Recall update
Sinn Féin spokesperson for health Pat Sheehan has raised his concern at the Health Department's decision to cancel a cross-party update briefing on the Neurology Recall.
In 2018 the recall of 2,500 neurology patient's under the care of Dr Michael Watt was the largest of its kind in the north of Ireland.
The West Belfast MLA said: "It is disappointing that the department has cancelled this meeting scheduled for Wednesday to provide health spokespersons with an outcomes report on the recall.
"We have been engaging with, and where necessary challenging, the Department of Health at regular meetings on the roll-out of the recall.
"These meetings have been vital for public representatives who have been supporting patients affected by the recall. We have been representing concerns many patients have had throughout the process in what has been a stressful and worrying time for them.
"The department's excuse for pulling the meeting due to unforeseen circumstances is not good enough.
"I have requested a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of Health and a fuller explanation of his reason for cancelling this important update to party spokespersons."
