Cork Mail Centre Closure ‘Crushing Blow for Employees and Cork Region’ – O’Brien
Sinn Féin TD for Cork North Central Jonathan O’Brien TD has criticised An Post for both the closure of its Cork Mail Centre and the fashion in which employees were informed when they arrived for work this morning.
Teachta O’Brien said:
“I have been advised that workers in the sorting office this morning arrived for work at 5am, only to be told that the Cork Mail Centre was to be closed. The fact that the media were informed before employees seriously affected by this decision shows a serious lack of consideration for An Post’s competent Cork workforce.
“Possible redeployment opportunities are cold comfort to employees at a time when An Post are closing post offices throughout the 26 Counties with the next closest Mail centre located in Athlone.
“This is nothing more than elimination of funding from the greater Munster area and Government must ensure assurances are given to these workers.”
