Support Community Paramedic Services - Sheehan
Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has urged people to vote for Community Paramedic Services, a project involving Ambulance services in Ireland and Scotland.
The EU funded project has made it to the final shortlist of the Modernising Health Services category of the Regiostars Awards.
Pat Sheehan said:
“The Co-Operation and Working Together (CAWT) project has provided specialised training for ambulance staff to treat more patients at home rather than Emergency Departments where possible.
“This prevents long and unnecessary waiting times for patients and allows paramedic teams to be permanently based in rural areas.
“The ambulance service has faced major staffing challenges recently, particularly in rural areas. This reinforces the importance of home treatment, rather than long travel. This project benefits the whole community.
“The great success and recognition of this project exposes the disaster that a crash Brexit will be for local and rural communities through removal of vital funding.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to go online and vote for the Cross Border Community Paramedic project.”
