HSE spending on consultancy fees "absurd" - Louise O'Reilly TD
Sinn Féin health spokesperson Deputy Louise O’Reilly, has said the fees spent by the the Health Service Executive on consultancy companies for the National Children's Hospital are “absurd”.
Teachta O’Reilly said:
“It is absurd that the HSE would spend €11.2 million on consultancy fees for the National Children's Hospital in a single year.
“The HSE is a massive organisations and their workers have significant skill sets, so the HSE need to provide detailed analysis and reasoning as to why they spent €11.2m on external consultancy fees last year.
“In particular, the spending of €1m on communications for public relations to one company over the past four years is an affront to the prudent spending of public money. It cannot be justified given the number of people the HSE have working in press and public relations.
“The more we find out about the new national children’s hospital the more unnecessary waste that is exposed.
“The HSE should, as a matter of urgency, provide a detailed breakdown of the €11.2m spent and the specific reasons why it was spent."
