Transparency and clarity needed over Shannon Group issues - Violet-Anne Wynne TD
Sinn Féin TD for Clare, Violet-Anne Wynne, has called for transparency over ever-changing numbers for the struggling Shannon Group.
Teachta Wynne said:
“I am calling on the Group to ‘lay it all out there’ in terms of the broader picture of what the Group needs to ensure the survival of Shannon Heritage and Shannon Airport.
“I am deeply concerned that the figure required to save the Heritage sites has risen to €6.4m, compared to the original figure of €3.9m that was quoted by the Group, and by local public representatives just 3-4 weeks ago.
“This initial figure had brought some hope to the staff that the Government would step in and offer the supports that the Group needs.
“This new figure, as confirmed by Group CEO Mary Considine, is still achievable but I have no doubt it is raising questions within the Department of what the final redline figure to save the Heritage sites will actually be.
“Of course, this is all before they even look at the Airport side of this issue.
“I sincerely hope the Government can step in and provide the supports required, but I am calling on the group to make the full requirements known now and I would ask for people to stop speculating figures until the final numbers are made known.”
