Driver testing backlog needs urgently addressed – Boylan

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has said there is an urgent need to address the backlog of driving tests.

The Newry and Armagh MLA said:

“The general public cannot book a test until November and this is affecting families across the north who need a vehicle to access work, education and vital services.

“It’s also concerning that no indication could be given as to what backlog we will experience once general testing gets underway again.

“The DVA has said that they are reviewing ways to expand capacity such as increased recruitment.

“However, the Infrastructure Minister should have seen this backlog problem coming and should have options already explored as to how to address this huge issue.

“It appears that a reactive approach, instead of a proactive approach, has been taken.

“Nichola Mallon needs to urgently explore ways to increase testing capacity while ensuring the health and safety of DVA staff.”
