Rogan calls on Wells to apologise for comments

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Rogan has called on Jim Wells MLA to apologise for ‘derogatory’ comments made towards young people and the GAA in South Down.

The South Down MLA said:

“Comments made by Jim Wells MLA blaming young people and the GAA in South Down for the spread of COVID19 were derogatory and insulting.

“Jim Wells must immediately retract and apologise for these comments.

“It is nonsensical to exclusively blame those within the 18-30 age bracket who have attended pubs, parties and even GAA activities for being the main drivers for the increase in COVID19 cases locally.

“The COVID19 pandemic is a time for unity amongst all citizens – it is not a time for silly, dangerous and non-factual comments.”
