Sheehan calls for release of Palestinian prisoner

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has called for the immediate release of a Palestinian prisoner who is currently on hunger strike in an Israeli prison.

The West Belfast MLA said:

“It’s deeply concerning that Palestinian prisoner Maher al-Akhras is currently in a critical condition in an Israeli hospital.

“Maher has been on hunger strike for almost 80 days after being arrested and held under the cruel administrative detention policy in July.

“This cruel policy is a flagrant breach of human rights which is consistently ignored by the Israeli regime.

“Maher al-Akhras must be released immediately.”
