‘Make suicide prevention training a requirement’ – Flynn

Sinn Féin MLA Órlaithí Flynn has launched a bill to make suicide prevention training a requirement for frontline staff in public bodies and government departments.

The party’s mental health spokesperson said:

“Sinn Féin have launched a bill to make suicide prevention training a requirement for frontline staff in public bodies and government departments.

“These staff work directly with the public every single day and it’s vital that they have basic awareness and training.

“This Bill will allow those who have not already received suicide prevention training to receive it.

“Given the tragic rates of people taking their own life across the north, this training could make a real difference and could save lives.

“I would urge people to take part in the consultation on this bill and help get this training rolled out to workers – you can fill it in here: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/53FLCG8”
