Sinn Féin launch rescue package proposals for the arts and culture sector – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD launches the party's Rescue Package proposals

Seolann Sinn Féin pacáiste tarrthála d’éarnáil na n-ealaíon agus an chultúir

(English Below)

Inniu, rinne urlabhraí Gaeilge, Gaeltachta, Ealaíon agus Cultúir Shinn Féin, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, pacáiste tarrthála a sheoladh le moltaí don éarnáil ealaíon agus cultúir.

Agus é á lainseáil inniu, dúirt an Teachta Ó Snodaigh:

“Inniu táim ag seoladh Pacáiste Tarrthála Shinn Féin don éarnáil ealaíon agus cultúir. Tá réimse moltaí ann chun ár n-ealaíon a shlánú agus chun tacú le healaíontóirí.

“Tá ealaíontóirí tar éis streachailt trí am thar a bheith deacair dóibh agus tá brú ollmhór orthu go fóill agus muid fós ag teacht amach as an bpaindéim seo agus an éarnáil fós ag teacht chuige féin. Ní hamháin gur theip ar Cháinaisnéis 2022 na tacaíochtaí cuí d’ealaíontóirí a chur ar fáil, ach rinne said ciorruithe fiú ar roinnt de na tacaíochtaí rí-thábhachtacha sin a bhí ann.

“Tá Sinn Féin ag moladh pacáiste chun ár n-ealaíon a shlánú agus chun tacú le healaíontóirí. Bhainfeadh muid leas as bun-moltaí ar leith chun é seo a dhéanamh, lena n-áirítear breis maoiniú de €4.25 milliúin a chur ar fáil don Chomhairle Ealaíon chun go bhféadfadh leo ciste cruatain a bhunú d’oibrithe ealaíon atá ag streachailt ó thaobh airgead de.

“Freisin táimid ag lorg athchóiriú ar an maoiniú don Taibhiú Beo. Rinne sceanach ar an maoiniú seo ina leath ó €50 milliúin go dtí €25 milliúin i gCáinaisnéis 2022. Thabharfadh muid an maoiniú seo ar ais, agus dhéanfadh muid é a leathnú ionas go gcuirfear tacaíochtaí atosuithe ar fáil don oideachas taibhealaíona, ar nós grúpaí damhnsa, scoileanna drámaíochta agus ranganna ceoil atá tar éis beagnach 2 bhliain a chaitheamh scartha ó dhaltaí.

“Impím ar an Aire Turasóireachta, Cultúir, Ealaíon, Gaeltachta, Spó

irt agus Meán fíor-mhacnamh a dhéanamh ar mholtaí Shinn Féin agus teacht i mbun comhairle linn faoi conas iad a chur i bhfeidhm.“

Tá sé in am dúinn tacú le healaíontóirí agus na healaíona a shlánú. D’fhulaing an éarnáil go leor le dhá bhliain anuas agus mothaíonn sé go bhfuil neamhaird ghlan déanta ag an rialtas orthu agus na tacaíochtaí atá ag teastáil go géar uathu fágtha ar láir.

“Seasfaidh Sinn Féin an bhfód d’éarnáil na n-ealaíon agus an chultúir, chun a chinntiú go bhfaigheann said an cúnamh atá tuillte acu.”

Sinn Féin launch rescue package proposals for the arts and culture sector – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson for Gaeilge, Gaeltacht, Arts and Culture, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, has today launched a proposed rescue package for the arts and culture sector.

Speaking today as he launched the proposals, Teachta Ó Snodaigh said:

“Today I am launching Sinn Féin’s Rescue Package For Arts and Culture. It contains a range of proposals to save the arts and support artists.

“Artists have been through a very difficult period and are still under huge pressure as we continue to emerge from the pandemic and the sector gets back on its feet. Shockingly, Budget 2022 failed to put in place the supports our artists need and the government even cut some crucial supports.

“Sinn Féin is proposing a package to save the arts and support artists. We would do this through key measures, including increasing funding to the Arts Council by €4.25 million to establish a hardship fund for arts workers struggling financially.

“We are also calling for restoration of Live Performance Funding. Budget 2022 saw this funding slashed in half from €50 million to just €25 million. We would restore this funding, and broaden it to include restart supports for performing arts education, such as dance troupes, stage schools and music classes who have now endured almost 2 years away from students.

“I believe a Rescue Package for arts and culture is long overdue given the devastating impact of the pandemic on such a vital part of our nation’s fabric, not to mention the role it plays in our economy.

“I am calling on the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media to carefully consider Sinn Féin’s proposals and to engage with us on progressing these policies.

“It’s time to support artists and save the arts. The sector has endured so much in the last two years and feels abandoned by this government which has consistently failed to put in place the supports they need.

“Sinn Féin will stand up for the arts and culture sector, to ensure they get the vital help they deserve.”
