Children chased & threatened with knife in Rasharkin

16 March, 2006

Rasharkin Sinn Féin Councillor, Daithí McKay, has expressed his concern after an incident in which a group of children in the village were chased by a man and threatened with a knife.

Cllr McKay said:

"A number of residents have expressed to me their concern after an incident last week during which a knife was produced to threaten young children.

"According to some reports it was in reaction to being Œpelted‚ by adolescents. However, regardless of whether this is true or not, there is absolutely no justification for producing a knife in this area, especially toward minors.

"I would hope that this is not an incident that is going to recur as it will not be tolerated by local residents and it should be made clear that the carrying of knives on our streets is not acceptable. I would also call upon any young people in the area who are engaging in some of the recent anti-social behaviour in the village to desist, as this is not helping the situation." ENDS
