Sinn Féin TD for Kerry, Pa Daly, has outlined his wishes for the coastal infrastructure fund, announced yesterday as part of Brexit Reserve Fund measures.
Teachta Daly said:
“The fund has been announced by Minister McConalogue and it contains some possibilities for Kerry, if the funds are directed properly. Two projects in particular jump out as serious opportunities.
“The Minard slipway should be developed into a proper pier/ slipway so that it can cater for modern inshore vessels. The facilities there have not been developed much since the foundation of the state and they are too small and dangerous in its current state to cater for fishing vessels.
“This may allow local fishermen make use of it and may allow opportunities for eco-tourism in the area.
“The same should also be examined for Bunaneer at the mouth of Annascaul River. This pier serves the Blasket Islands and badly needs un upgrade to safely facilitate the thousands of visitors it has each year.
“Kerry is very dependent on tourism and fishing, and good coastal infrastructure is vital to keep these industries viable.”
