Doolan-City Council incompetence on fire safety continues
Sinn Féin's Dublin South East Representative, Councillor Daithí Doolan, today accused, "City Council officials of dragging their heels on an independent fire report on the safety of hundreds of residents of council flats. "
Speaking in Dublin, Cllr. Doolan said:
"There is growing frustration among residents of council flats on Ross Road, Nicholas Street and Bride Street that the City Management have failed to provide them with an independent fire safety report on their homes. The report was promised after residents met with Council management in December 2005 and was due to be carried out within a few months.
"It has now come to light, in response to a question I put to City Manager, that the audit of the flats only commenced this month, three months after it should have been completed.
''Residents have led a campaign to have work carried out on their flats following two fires in which three people died. Original fire safety work promised by City Council, was never carried out and many meetings and several months later we are still waiting for this report.
"It is totally unacceptable that residents are forced to live in fear while the council officials are dragging their heels on this matter. Residents are now concerned that the council are engaged in a cynical PR exercise.
"The City Manager needs to stop prevaricating. He must take full responsibility and publish this fire safety report as a matter of urgency." ENDS
