MacManus Commends work of Fanad Lighthouse voluntary committee

Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus has commended Forbairt Fhánada Teoranta, the voluntary local committee running Fanad Lighthouse, for their work in attracting tourism to the local area. The Midlands Northwest MEP was speaking after meeting with Lighthouse Manager, Eimear Ní Mhathúna, on a recent visit to Fanad.

MEP MacManus said:

“I was delighted to visit Eimear and the team at Fanad Lighthouse recently. The lighthouse is based in a stunning location on the Fanad peninsula with outstanding natural beauty and it is easy to see why it has become such a popular destination for tourists.”

“The lighthouse first opened as a tourist attraction in 2016 and is a not-for-profit social enterprise run by local voluntary committee, Forbairt Fhánada Teoranta. I want to commend the committee for showing wonderful initiative to develop the lighthouse into such a fantastic attraction.”

“The development has brought enormous benefits to the local area in terms of tourism and economic development. It has provided a boost to employment in the local area with the employment of guides and other staff at the lighthouse itself and also through spin-off benefits for other local businesses, particularly in the hospitality sector.”

“The Lighthouse also demonstrates the success of the Wild Atlantic Way, which has been extremely positive for rural communities across the West of Ireland since it was launched, bringing tourists into areas that hadn’t seen visitors for many years.”

“I want to thank Eimear and her team for having me at the Lighthouse and I wish them continued success.” ENDS

This Government is like the last guest at a party who has worn out their welcome but still won't go.

Be very clear: The day is coming when they will have to face the verdict of the people.

So when a General Election is called, vote for hope, vote for change and vote this failed…

This was the time to call a general election, but the government didn’t have the guts to call one.

We need change like never before. We need a new government that will put workers, families, and community first.

It’s time for new people with new ideas.  It’s time for change.

Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has welcomed a commitment from the finance minister to review the issuing of baby loss certificates to parents who suffer baby loss prior to 24 weeks.

‘Recognition of a Palestinian state will happen’. Welcome words from @MichealMartinTD but falls short of a firm declaration.
There may be no Palestine left to recognise unless Ireland & international community act decisively and immediately. No more delays.
