Ryan calls for VAT to be removed from Defibrillators

13 May, 2022 - by Patricia Ryan TD

Sinn Féin TD for South Kildare, Patricia Ryan, has called for the removal of VAT from defibrillators.  Speaking at her constituency office in Athy, Patricia said:

“We need to encourage community groups, developers and commercial businesses to install more defibrillators. As a former first responder, I know the difference that improved access to Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) can make in a community. There have been lots of initiatives recently to encourage more AED’s, including initiatives to have them installed in every new housing development.

I asked a parliamentary question of the Minister for Finance this week to see if he will reduce the VAT rate which will in turn reduce the cost, and hopefully encourage more installations. The Minister replied that his Department are currently reviewing the options available to Ireland in setting VAT rates. I am hopeful that we can see changes in the next budget so that AED’s will become more prevalent.
