Sinn Féin to welcome families of Hunger Strikers to Leinster house for commemorative event
Sinn Féin TDs will hold a commemorative event in Leinster House tomorrow to mark the 25th anniversary of the 1981 Republican Hunger Strikers. This month 25 years ago, two prisoner candidates were elected to the Dáil. Presentations will be made to family members of men who gave their lives on hunger strike in 1981, including former TD for Cavan/Monaghan Kieran Doherty, while also attending will be surviving Hunger Striker Lawrence McKeown and former Armagh prisoners Síle Darragh and Marie Gavigan.
The group will be welcomed into Leinster House by the Sinn Féin TDs at 12pm tomorrow, Thursday 22nd June, at Kildare Street Gate where there will be a photo opportunity and Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin will be available to speak briefly to the media.
