Walsh report leak disgraceful - Ó Caoláin
Cavan/Monaghan Dáil Deputy and Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has reacted angrily to the leaking to the Irish Times of an extract of the Carey report into the tragic death of Pat Joe Walsh at Monaghan General Hospital in October 2005 and the circumstances that lead to it.
Deputy Ó Caoláin said, “It is disgraceful that the report commissioned by Minister for Health Mary Harney into the tragic death of Pat Joe Walsh last October has been leaked to the media when the family of the deceased have not yet been apprised of its content. This is a shameful development. The purpose and motivation of whoever is responsible must be vigorously questioned.
“If the extract quoted is indicative of the whole report and its conclusions, then what we are facing is yet another scapegoat exercise and a failure to recognise that the real responsibility rests on those who have wilfully introduced policy and so called protocols that run contrary to the accepted norms of patient care and safety” stated Deputy Ó Caoláin.
