McGuinness To Meet Human Rights Commission

28 July, 2003

Sinn Féin Chief Negotiator Martin McGuinness will meet with the head of the Human Rights Commission, Brice Dickson this week. The meeting comes at Mr. McGuinness' request after recent resignations from the body.

Mr. McGuinness said:

"As Sinn Féin Chief Negotiator I wanted to meet with the Human Rights Commission and raise with the Chief Commissioner at first hand the very serious concerns which have been raised by both former Commissioners and the wider Human Rights Community.

"The Human Rights Commission is a cornerstone of the Good Friday Agreement and those of us who support that Agreement and wish to see it implemented have a duty to raise concerns about its operation.

"After this meeting I will meet with both the British and Irish governments and raise these very important matters in the course of those discussions." ENDS

Editors Note: Mr. McGuinness will meet with the Human Rights Commission on Wednesday morning at 10am at their offices in Belfast.
