Adams criticises mismanagement and under spend in public funds

8 August, 2006

West Belfast MP Gerry Adams today criticised what he described as "mismanagement and under spend in public funds at a time when vital community projects are having their funding cut". Mr Adams was speaking after he attended the opening of the West Belfast Partnership Board offices.

Mr Adams said:

"Parts of the West Belfast constituency including Whiterock, Falls, Upper Springfield and Shankill are amongst the poorest and most deprived in the north.

"However while this situation continues government departments and those with a responsibility for spending public money in a way that promotes regeneration are failing these areas.

"Whilst there is huge mismanagement and under spend in public funds including by DSD, vital services and projects in this community are still having their funding cut. This is unacceptable and needs to change." ENDS
