Media Arrangements For National H-Block/Armagh Commemoration Rally

11 August, 2006

On Sunday 13th August thousands of Republicans from across Ireland and beyond will travel to Belfast for the National Rally to Commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the 1981 Hunger Strike.

The Rally will leave Dunville Park at 1pm and make its way to Casement Park. A separate Parade will leave Bobby Sands home area of Twinbrook and meet the main rally in Casement Park.

Along the route of the main parade six individual dramas depicting different elements of the H-Block Struggle will be performed by young people.

In Casement Park the rally will be addressed by former POW Jennifer McCann, members of the Hunger Strikers Families and the main address will be given by Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams.

The proceedings will be chaired by Dublin MEP Mary Lou McDonald.

Singer Frances Black and former Long Kesh O/C Bik McFarlane will also perform.

The media are invited to attend both the march and rally.

Provision has been made to facilitate the media on the Casement Park pitch beside the stage which is sited in front of the main stand.

The media are asked to enter Casement Park via gate number 1 which will be clearly marked and make their way onto the pitch.

Stewards will be on duty to assist with any problems on the day.
