Sinn Féin select Doolan for Dublin South East

Sinn Féin has selected Cllr. Daithí Doolan to contest the forthcoming General Election for the party in Dublin South East. Following a unanimous vote at tonight's electoral convention, Doolan is set to make history by being the first republican to take a seat in Dublin South East since Countess Markievicz in 1918. Speaking after the vote in the Holiday Inn tonight, Councillor Daithí Doolan said he was "delighted and very proud that the party has chosen me to contest the General Election."

Cllr. Doolan said:

"I am looking forward to this election. I have no doubt that it will be challenging but I have every confidence that we will make history and win the seat.

Our campaign will be positive and it will be about offering real and relevant solutions to the problems that face people here in Dublin South East.

Our priorities are:

  • Ensuring that no incinerator is built here or anywhere in Ireland.
  • Strengthening the Peace Process by re-establishing the Assembly and the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.
  • Defending our public services and ensuring that our health care & education systems receive full and adequate funding.
  • Housing be made a constitutional right for everyone.

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan, said, "I am very much looking forward to this election campaign and the opportunity to give the residents of Dublin South East a real alternative to the failed policies of this government and the so-called opposition parties by voting for Sinn Féin." ENDS
