Outrage at Dodds attempt to score political points in the aftermath of tragic road death

31 October, 2006

South Armagh Sinn Féin Councillor Packie McDonald has accused DUP MP Nigel Dodds of "scraping the sectarian barrel" after his insensitive outburst about the funeral of Dromintee republican Gerry Fearon, who was tragically killed in a weekend car crash.

Cllr. McDonald said:

"I was outraged to hear Nigel Dodds of the DUP attempt to try and make political capital on the back of the death of Dromintee republican Gerry Fearon who died tragically in a weekend road accident and who was buried yesterday after a republican funeral in his home area.

"Local people are outraged that Dodds has decided to stoop to the level of causing further pain to an already grieving family in a bid to try and score cheap political points. Even by the DUP standards this insensitive outburst from Nigel Dodds is scraping the sectarian barrel." ENDS
