Newry Armagh MP concerned after Camlough pensioner's home robbed again

31 January, 2007

Sinn Féin Newry Armagh MP Conor Murphy has spoken of his concern and disgust after learning that the home of a 90-year-old Camlough pensioner, who suffered the trauma of being robbed twice in the one week last October, had been broken into again.

Mr Murphy said:

"The man, fortunately, was not in his home when it was broken into. I believe this break-in is the second such attempt at entering his home, within a week.

"It is essential that those engaged in this type of horrendous crime are apprehended."

The Newry Armagh MP added:

"I am aware that people from the local community have responded to the very clear call from Gerry Adams to co-operate with the police in tackling these crimes against our citizens. In fact it was such a call that alerted police to this latest incident.

"The PSNI need now to demonstrate, very clearly, that such co-operation will be put to an effective use in taking these criminals off the streets." ENDS
