Sinn Féin to meet with Policing Board Chairperson

15 April, 2007

A Sinn Féin delegation led by the party President Gerry Adams MP and including Assembly member Jennifer McCann, Dublin West Representative Joanne Spain and the party spokesperson on Policing issues Alex Maskey will meet with the Chairperson of the Policing Board Des Rea in Stormont on Monday morning at 10am.

The delegation will be available to speak to the media after the meeting at
11am in the main foyer.
Speaking today in advance of the meeting the party's spokesperson on
Policing issues Alex Maskey said:

"Tomorrows meeting with Des Rea is the latest stage in a number of meetings
we have undertaken since the Ard Fheis decision on Policing in January.

"At the meeting in the morning we will be raising issues including
accountability, representativeness, plastic bullets and of course collusion.

"At the time of the Patten consultation it was Sinn Féin who argued for a
strong Policing Board to hold the policing service to account. In the years
since in a series of negotiations we worked to ensure that it had the powers
necessary to do so.

"We are looking forward to the meeting in the morning and we view it very
much in the context of delivering on our Ard Fheis commitment to achieving
an accountable and representative service." ENDS
