Sinn Fein supports Older & Bolder Campaign
Sinn Féin's Dublin South East candidate, Councillor Daithí Doolan attended this morning's meeting organised by the Older & Bolder Campaign and commended all of those involved, particularly Age Action Ireland, Age & Opportunity, Irish Senior Citizens Parliament and the Senior Help Line. Councillor Doolan said 'In government Sinn Féin is committed to introducing an all-Ireland strategy for older people and the establishment of an Ombudsman for Older people.
Speaking at the Gresham Hotel Cllr. Doolan said:
"In the coming days Sinn Féin will be publishing a Charter for Senior Citizens which sets out our priorities on a whole range of issues around social inclusion, living in safety, access to health care, ending poverty and guaranteeing a decent income for older people.
"In government Sinn Féin is committed to bringing forward an all-Ireland strategy for older people, following consultation and direct involvement of older people themselves and groups such as those involved in the Older and Bolder campaign. We will also establish an Ombudsman for Older People.
"Senior citizens have made a lifetime contribution to society, through their work, their taxes and voluntary work in their communities and the standard of living of many does not meet their needs or reflect the contribution which they made. This needs to be addressed as a priority."ENDS
