Moves on misleading sales of cheap flights welcomed
Sinn Féin West Belfast MLA Jennifer McCann has welcomed the news that action has been taken by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) over claims that the online advertising by several of the leading airlines was misleading.
Ms McCann said:
"Its has been a recurring complaint by consumers who book flights online, that when flight supplements, air passenger duty and air passenger levy is added that the price between the bargain flight advertised and the final purchase price can be vast.
"This move by the OFT will hopefully encourage airlines to include all fixed non-optional costs in their basic advertised prices.
"There also needs to be a look taken at the way airlines are now adding charges for insurance and baggage fees. Much like the cheap flight advertisements there is a lot of confusion about these added extras when consumers are booking flights online." ENDS
