Ballybot born, Mickey Brady has championed the people of Newry all his working life. As the first project manager and worker for the Newry Welfare Rights Centre Mickey spent over 30 years fighting in the corner of the socially excluded and powerless.
First elected in 2007, Mickey has been a key part of the Sinn Féin team within the Assembly since then. In 2011 Mickey Brady successfully defended his Assembly seat. Mickey was then elected as MP for Newry & Armagh in 2015, he was then re-elected in 2017 and again in 2019.
Mickey is currently the spokesperson for welfare rights and anti-austerity.
Mickey’s dedication to the people of Newry and Armagh is demonstrated by the popular advice clinics he holds throughout the constituency and by the numbers of constituents he meets in his constituency office in Newry.
Mickey is a strong advocate of the Good Friday Agreement and is currently a member of the Good Friday Agreement implementation committee based in Leinster House Dublin. Mickey is involved in outreach programmes and working groups with Unionists and is dedicated to continued peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland.
