MEP MacManus Visits Dundalk’s St John Of God’s Day Service

The Sinn Féin MEP was joined by Cllr Kevin Meenan for a North Louth Constituency Visit
Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus recently visited Dundalk’s St John of God’s day service for adults with an intellectual disability and commended the services provided. The Midlands Northwest MEP was speaking after visiting the Venegas Centre with his Sinn Féin colleague Cllr Kevin Meenan.

MEP MacManus said:
“I was pleased to visit St John of God’s Venegas Centre in Dundalk recently and meet with staff and service users. It was an enjoyable visit and it was great to see the work being done by the staff there for local adults with an intellectual disability.”

“It was obvious that the staff are very passionate about their work and provide a top-class service to the people there. They ensure that the service users are involved with the local community. Community inclusion is vital for them, as people with intellectual disabilities often suffer from isolation and marginalisation.”

The Sinn Féin MEP praised the centre’s ethos of promoting personel independence. “There is also a strong focus on promoting independence for the service users which is so important for building their self-confidence and enabling them to feel more empowered and fulfilled in their lives.”

MacManus concluded with a word of thanks, “I want to commend the staff for their work and look forward to visiting again in future. I’d also like to thank my colleague Cllr. Kevin Meenan. He continues to do brilliant work in the Dundalk and North Louth area.” ENDS
