Foreign travel green list now a month out of date – Darren O’Rourke TD

Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Transport, Darren O’Rourke TD, today questioned why the government’s green list for foreign travel has not been updated in over four weeks.

Speaking today, the Meath East TD said:

“This green list was introduced in July and was intended to be a source to inform people if they had to restrict their movements upon their return from a certain country.

“The current the green list is now a month out of date, with no updates made to it since August 4th, despite a commitment to review the list every two weeks when it was initially introduced.

“This is particularly concerning, as it’s one of the only tools the government have actually introduced to try and limit the spread of Covid-19 through foreign travel, as we still have no temperature screening or testing in our airports.

“This is just further evidence of drift by the government in this crucial area.

“It’s causing confusion for those who need to travel for work, for family reasons, and for those who choose to holiday abroad, including children now returning to school. The lack of updates undermines the green list itself.

“We will have to live with Covid-19 for some time to come, and during this time people will need to travel abroad for a variety of reasons.

“The green list needs to be regularly updated to ensure those who are travelling abroad are aware of their restricted movement obligations upon return.

“It’s completely unacceptable that such an important source of information for people is now a month out of date.”
