Léiríonn MacManus a thacaíocht do rún Pharlaimint na hEorpa faoi cearta teanga agus mionlaigh

Léiríonn Feisire Eorpach de chuid Shinn Féin, Chris MacManus a thacaíocht do rún Pharlaimint na hEorpa faoi cearta teanga agus mionlaigh.

Is de bharr an Pacáiste Slánú Mionlaithe go raibh an rún seo os comhair na parlaiminte. Is Tionscnamh Eorpach ó Na Saoránaigh ar cearta teanga agus mionlaigh náisiúnta é an Pacáiste Slánú Mionlaithe.

Ag caint tar éis vótáil ar an rún, dúirt MacManus:

“Is Tionscnamh Eorpach ó Na Saoránaigh faoi cearta teanga agus mionlaigh náisiúnta é an Pacáiste Slánú Mionlaithe.  Shínigh níos mó ná aon mhilliún duine an tionscnamh agus léiríonn sé seo gur is buncheist bheo í teanga san Eoraip mar atá sí sa bhaile. De bharr sin bhí rún ar an tionscnamh os comhair na parlaiminte agus bhí mé sásta chun vótáil i bhfabhar.

“D’ardaigh an rún seo go bhfuil ciníochas agus seineafóibe in aghaidh dhaoine a bhaineann le mionlaigh náisiúnta agus teanga ag fás agus iarrann sé go ndéanfaí beart i gcoinne an fháis seo.

“Chomh maith le sin, iarrann an rún ar an AE agus ar Bhallstáit an AE, mionlaigh náisiúnta agus teanga a chur san áireamh agus iad ag cur le chéile chláir mhaoinithe. Bheadh beart mar seo fíor thábhachtach chun mionlaigh náisiúnta agus teanga a chosaint.  DEIREADH

MacManus backs Parliament resolution on language and minority rights

Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus has expressed his support for a European Parliament resolution on the rights of linguistic and national minorities. The resolution comes after a European Citizens Imitative, titled the Minority Safe Pack, which has secured over 1 million signatures.

Speaking from Brussels MacManus said:

“The Minority Safe-pack is a European Citizens Initiative on the rights of traditional minorities and language rights. I was happy to support this initiative via voting in favour of the European Parliament resolution, and I thank everyone involved for their work in bringing it this far.

“Over 1 million people signed this initiative and that just highlights that language and minority rights debate is a live issue

“This resolution highlighted that racism and xenophobia being directed towards persons belonging to national and linguistic minorities is growing and calls for action to be taken against this growth.

“The resolution also calls on the EU and its Member States to take account of the needs of national and linguistic minorities when designing its funding programmes. Measures such as this are vital to protecting national and linguistic minorities. ENDS
