Flynn highlights importance of smear testing

Sinn Féin MLA Órlaithí Flynn has encouraged women to get a smear test to help tackle cervical cancer.

Speaking on Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, the West Belfast MLA said:

“Smear testing is vital to the early detection of cervical cancer.

“Around one in 38 women in the north will develop cervical cancer. These are stark figures and reinforce the importance of getting a smear test.

“Women between the age of 25 and 64 are offered a test, while all women registered with a GP will be automatically invited for a smear.

“It is important that we all attend our cancer screening tests as the earlier this disease is caught, the more effective treatment can be.”
