Spokesperson on Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs

Claire is 29 years old and comes from the small village of Tibohine in West Roscommon. A graduate of NUI Galway, Claire is a qualified secondary school teacher.

Claire comes from a family of six, her father a small beef farmer and her mother a local primary school principal. 

Claire has spent the last four years working with Sinn Féin in Leinster House as a political advisor on Social Protection. In that time, Claire has learned how Leinster House works, what it takes to get things done and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to social welfare matters, pensions and employment supports. 

She has also built relations with key organisations particularly those who represent lone parents, older people and carers.

Claire represents change for Roscommon and Galway, neither which have felt any kind of recovery under the policies of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Green Party in recent years.

Claire has been active on local issues for almost 10 years. In her late teens, Claire was heavily involved in the campaign against the closure of the Accident and Emergency Unit in Roscommon, she has actively campaigned against evictions at family homes, she has campaigned for the continuation of domestic turf cutting rights and most recently against the closure of the Rosalie Home in Castlerea and Cuisle in Donamon.

Claire is the party spokesperson on Social Protection and Rural Development. She sits on the Oireachtas Committee for Social Protection, Community, Rural Development & the Islands.
