Ryan calls for earlier allocation of Eircode’s

6 November, 2020 - by Patricia Ryan TD

Sinn Féin TD for Kildare South, Patricia Ryan, has asked the Minister for Environment, Climate and Communications to address the delays in the provision of Eircode’s for new builds.

Patricia said:

“I wrote to Minister Eamon Ryan to ask him to address the delays in the provision of Eircode’s for new builds. I have been contacted by a number of people who have experienced delays in getting Eircode’s allocated to their home or business premises. This in turn has caused difficulties in accessing services such as broadband where the company requires an Eircode to give details. Many courier companies also require an Eircode and this has also caused problems in getting items delivered.

Eircode cost €38 million. This was €20 million more than was forecast. The very least that can be done is to provide a prompt service, along with an easy way for people to change incorrect address details. Finding out how to change incorrect details is like trying to find out the third secret of Fatima.

The Minister has replied to say that he recognises that earlier assignment of Eircode’s to new builds is desirable, and that his officials are working with An Post, Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi), An Post GeoDirectory and Capita to improve and expedite the existing process.
